Microsoft has begun rolling out the Windows 11 version 24H2 update to Copilot+ PCs and other Windows 11 users in general. This update is designed to improve the user experience, making tasks faster, simpler, and more personalized, as stated by Pavan Davuluri, Corporate Vice President of Windows + Devices. The highlight is utilising AI breakthroughs to make real-life tasks more comfortable and improve efficiency.
Key Features in the Windows 11 24H2 Update
A new feature for quickly locating previously viewed content on PCs (Recall) is part of the new functionality in the update. According to user feedback, Microsoft will now save snapshots with Recall using additional security measures that make them only accessible to Windows Hello-enabled users.
This feature also comes with a private information filter to protect your details and stops information like bank or credit card details and unique susceptibility numbers. In October Recall will be available to Windows Insiders on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, and in November it will come to Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs with global availability will be announced soon after.
There is also Click to Do, an interactive overlay that shows up on a PC screen and offers suggestions for actions to make workflows easier. Users can be connected with tools such as for Visual Search with Bing, background blurring in Photos, and other tasks like summarizing or emailing text. Users can reach ‘Click to Do’ by pressing the Windows key and clicking the mouse.
The update also improves Windows Search, enabling users to search for documents and pictures using descriptive phrases (rather than file names) even when not connected to the internet, leveraging Copilot+ PCs’ powerful NPU. Search will come to File Explorer first, eventually making its way to Windows Search and Settings.
Users can also enhance lower-resolution images without compromising on quality using the super-resolution feature based on AI to upscale images up to 8X, bringing them in seconds to 4K resolution on Copilot+ PCs. The Paint app has also been updated with AI tools that let users more simply paint and change images either through certain instructions such as paints or by painting these details, removing the necessity to blend them. The model has been improved to ensure test performance and also provides pre-built moderation — from creative to moderation, all in one plugin.
As part of the shared Arm on Windows ecosystem, Microsoft is bolstering its range of native and emulated applications for Arm-based Copilot+ PCs. Make no mistake, developers are harnessing cutting-edge NPU skills delivering different experiences in productivity, entertainment, VPN, and security. Available apps include top web browsers like Chrome and Brave, communication services such as Zoom and Slack, together with creative software InDesign and Premiere from Adobe. More than 90% of the printers sold over the last seven years can work with these gadgets, thus bolstering user comfort in general.
Additional features of the update include an energy saver mode designed to improve battery life and energy efficiency, enhanced hearing aid support through Bluetooth LE Audio, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility for faster connectivity, and improvements to the taskbar, system tray, File Explorer, and Settings for more intuitive navigation.
