Microsoft could potentially acquire Discord

Discord platform is a one-stop destination for all things related to gaming chat. It has online communities focused on various games and is one of the best platforms to get all the information you want regarding your favorite games.

According to sources, the world’s biggest software maker, Microsoft is currently in talks with Discord to acquire the gaming-focused chat software for more than $10 billion.

The talk is being carried out by the Xbox chief Phil Spencer and it seems that there is a possibility of a potential deal. Sources reported that Discord was exploring a $10 billion-plus sale after multiple potential buyers expressed interest. It is also reported that Discord had signed an exclusive acquisition discussion with one party, suggesting a deal could be close.

However, some sources indicate that the deal isn’t imminent, however, there are still reports indicating that Discord would more likely take itself public than seek an acquisition. We have already seen the chat platform decline offers from Epic Games and Amazon among many in the past.

The Discord software has about 140 million monthly users and made $130 million in revenue last year, and the company’s last valuation was $7 billion after a funding round in December generated $100 million.  The software is free for most users, but the company makes money through $9.99 monthly Nitro subscriptions that offer more advanced features like higher resolution screen sharing, extra sticker packs, and larger upload limits.
