Mgnrega Job Card List
Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (MGNREGA), low-income families nationwide are given job cards that list the specific tasks that must be completed by the job card holder or NREGA beneficiary. What is the 2005 MGNREGA Act?
The goal of the September 2005-passed Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA or NREGA) is to ensure the “right to work” through social security and labor laws in India. This programme gives each household at least 100 days of pay employment per financial year in an effort to improve livelihood security in rural areas. Adult members must offer to perform unskilled labor for this.
On April 1, 2008, NREGA, the world’s largest and most ambitious social security and public works program, was expanded to include all of India’s districts. Building durable assets is another goal of MGNREGA (such as roads, canals, ponds and wells). Minimum salaries must be paid and employment must be supplied within 5 km of the applicant’s domicile.
How Do the Poor Benefit from the NREGA Scheme?
Applicants are eligible for unemployment benefits if employment is not offered within 15 days of filing an application. This implies that the government must give those individuals specific unemployment benefits if it is unable to find them work. Employment under the NREGA Scheme is therefore guaranteed by law. Contractor involvement in the implementation of MGNREGA is prohibited and will mostly be handled by gram panchayats (GPs).
NREGA can support social fairness, environmental protection, women’s emancipation, lower rates of rural-urban migration, and the creation of rural assets in addition to ensuring economic security. Numerous protections are offered by the law to encourage efficient administration and application. The act states clearly the agencies and guiding principles for execution, the list of approved projects, the financing structure, the monitoring and assessment process, and—above all—the specific steps taken to guarantee accountability and openness.
