Want a gaming laptop that’s just like the Microsoft Surface Pro? The ASUS ROG Mothership is 17-inch detachable gaming laptop with Nvidia’s RTX 2080 GPU and Intel Core i9-8950HK might be the best choice for you
Gaming on a laptop always seemed to be overblown with the heat dissipated. Typical gaming laptop vents are on the bottom sides making airflow a bit choppy.
So, ASUS has made a bold move by removing such format and making a gaming laptop quiet similar to that of the Mircosoft Surface Pro. That means the ASUS ROG Mothership will have a vertical design, Surface-style pop-up kickstand, and detachable folding keyboard.
Now, this idea makes lot of sense because by this way the heat which could earlier only come out from the bottom vents getting trapped in the keyboard and desk, now can easily get through the huge, but not that much noticeable vertical vents.
The Surface-like kickstand helps to bend it in three different angles, and you can either keep the keyboard attached to it or just completely separate it, giving a desktop feel to it.
The ROG Mothership (GZ700) has a huge 17.3-inch 1080p (FHD) display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Also, it has a 3ms response time and equips the Nvidia’s G-Sync.
It is powered by Intel’s top-of-the-line Core i9-8950HK processor. The graphics has been powered by the newly announced mobile version of NVIDIA’s RTX 2080 Max Q GPU.
Both of the CPU and GPU according to ASUS are overclocked beyond stock speed because of the better cooling that the vertical design offers.
The storage is provided by a RAID 0 array with three NVMe SSDs and with up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM rounding throughout the internal hardware.
Also there’s the supports for Windows Hello facial recognition from the built-in webcam for quick access.
Coming to the ports & connectivity we have a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port, a standard USB-C port, four USB Type-A ports, HDMI, an SD card slot, and an Ethernet port with support for 2.5G ethernet. Also, there’s the latest 802.11ax Wi-Fi or the Wi-Fi 6 support.
Also, there are dual 280W charging ports which most of the superpowered gaming laptops demand these days. The ROG Mothership weighs about 4.7 Kg and it is expected to be available from Q1 of 2019.
