MediaTek is gearing up to launch a direct competitor to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon “8s” series next year, with the upcoming chipset set to rival Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Elite (SM8735). This is based on a recent leak of the new Dimensity 9-series from Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station which can be trusted for such information. It should also be noted that both the Snapdragon 8s Elite and the latest MediaTek chip are likely coming around the same timeline with an anticipated launch window of Q1 2025.

MediaTek to Rival Snapdragon 8s Elite with New Chipset Launch in 2025: Report

The brand that is expected to adopt this new MediaTek chipset first will be OnePlus, with a smartphone being launched under the OenPlus Ace 5 series. OnePlus has always kept its Ace series limited to the Chinese market, releasing up to 5 models in one series. The OnePlus Ace 5, which is also the first MediaTek Dimensity 9300 smartphone, will come with several exciting specs, like a 7,000mAh+ battery, 1.5K resolution flat panel, 0809 vibration motor, and more.

It will also probably pack a “short-focus” optical in-display fingerprint sensor. Surprisingly unlike the existing offering, the OnePlus Ace 5 or Ace 5 Pro, the device is said to have a plastic middle frame. Coming to the OnePlus Ace 5 series, the OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro will be launching this month in China.

It appears to be continuing this naming convention with the global markets as well, with the OnePlus Ace 5 almost certainly going to be known as the OnePlus 13R. The OnePlus 13 series, with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, will launch globally in January 2025, according to OnePlus Whether the OnePlus Ace 5 sequence with the MediaTek chipset will make its method out of China is up in the air because OnePlus often keeps its Ace sequence telephones overseas.
