The Dimensity 9300 has marked MediaTek’s return to the premium Android smartphone segment, positioning itself as a formidable competitor with the upcoming launch of the Dimensity 9400. While Google and Apple remain exceptions, the Taiwanese company has secured partnerships with nearly every other phone manufacturer.

Rumors suggest that Vivo may be eager to be the first to utilize MediaTek’s flagship silicon, potentially securing the initial batch for itself. A recent study also shows that the Dimensity 9400 has seen a performance increase of 20 percent compared to the Dimensity 9300.

More About MediaTek Dimensity 9400 and Vivo

Since October 2023 shipments of the Dimensity 9300 have been strong, with reports indicating that MediaTek has earned around $1 billion from its top-tier chipset. With the launch of the Dimensity 9400 in the half of 2024 MediaTek is looking to maintain this positive trend with Vivo supposedly being the first customer for the new SoC.

However specific details on how many units Vivo has secured or the price per unit of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 are not public. Depending on the order size MediaTek may have offered terms to Vivo. If the Dimensity 9400 proves to be more cost-effective than Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 MediaTek could see opportunities to attract customers.

Although reports mention a performance improvement of around 20 percent for the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 over its predecessor, there is uncertainty about which specific areas have been enhanced. Moreover, concerns have been raised about issues related to lower performance with rumored components like Cortex X5 in the MediaTek Dimensity 9400.

The Dimensity 9400 could face challenges, with temperature management due to the absence of efficiency cores mirroring the situation with the Dimensity 9300. This could potentially affect the silicon’s performance under pressure. It may require efforts from MediaTek and Vivo to tune the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 and tackle these issues. Stay tuned for updates as more details unfold regarding this situation.
