The Dimensity 9400 is said to be the next flagship chipset from MediaTek and it could arrive in Q4 this year, so here are two rumored features of the chip. Per popular tipster Digital Chat Station, the Dimensity 9400 will have the model number MT6991 and could be based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm N3E process node. The next-gen advanced node is claimed to reduce power by up to 34%, and this would make the chip more efficient while bringing improved performance.
The Upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9400
It will adopt the all-big core approach of its predecessor as well, with a Cortex-X5 performance core headlining the stable. Currently, we have a core under test at 3.4 GHz, but that could clock down by the time it launches and/or be part of a lower-end SKU. The rest of the chipset will carry three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 units alongside the Cortex-X5. Combined, this is meant to provide a powerful performance — making the Dimensity 9400 a strong contender in the top-end chipset space.
Earlier leaks from this year disclosed the core structure of the Dimensity 9400, which aroused a lot of interest among tech enthusiasts. The first round of Geekbench test results has revealed Dimensity 9400 being better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in both CPU and GPU benchmark data. That means that even if the chip is constructed on MediaTek’s new type of technology as expected, it still should have a decent advantage when it comes to processing power and graphics capabilities against Qualcomm.
Moving to TSMC’s 3nm N3E node is a big step, as this represents one of the very best manufacturing technologies that will be available. The boost in power efficiency then allows the Dimensity 9400 to be an even more appealing choice for flagship devices with high-end cores.
By the time we get to the official launch, more specs and benchmarks should come out so we will have a better understanding of what Dimensity 9400 can do. If the claimed specifications are accurate, this new chipset could potentially give MediaTek a great stride forwards in the industry; rivaling top dogs of the biz. The development is awaited by the tech community with interest as of now.
