Mauricio Pochettino has now signed the paperwork to become the new Chelsea manager. The Argentine’s deal will run until 2026, and an official announcement is expected confirming his arrival as soon as next week.
He will be replacing Frank Lampard, who has been in charge on a temporary basis since Graham Potter was dismissed. An agreement has been in place for the last few weeks, and has now been done and sealed with the contract signed.
Mauricio Pochettino to join Chelsea next week
The 51-year-old will be joined by his assistant, Jesus Perez, who was with him during both his spells at Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain. Pochettino will return to management after spending a year on the sidelines, following his dismissal from PSG.
Chelsea have endured their worst finish in the Premier League since 1996, ending up in the bottom half of the table in spite of spending crazy amounts of money in the transfer market.
And following the disastrous run under both Potter and Lampard, there will be pressure on Mauricio Pochettino to get the team running as a cohesive unit. This season, the Blues have looked extremely disjointed, and a big reason behind that is the changing of managers three times, not to mention the huge influx of new players.
Although Chelsea have Armando Broja, and the incoming Christopher Nkunku, they could be in the market for a new striker when the transfer window opens to deal with their goal drought.
