SC East Bengal are experiencing a meltdown both on the sporting side and away from it. The latest in the team news is that German midfielder Matti Steinmann and Bright Enobakhare have both left the club.

The German joined the club on a two and a half year deal, and was expected to receive a salary boost this year. However, his contract has been mutually terminated after only one year at the club. The player was in talks with his former club, Wellington Phoenix in Australia and could be headed back to the land down under again.

Steinmann was one of the most important players in the East Bengal squad, and chipped in with 4 goals and 3 assists in 17 appearances for the Red and Gold club. His departure will be a major loss to the club, and must be replaced adequately to compensate for his high quality output.

Bright Enobakhare had joined East Bengal on a temporary deal in the first place, but was reportedly interested in extending his stay. That will no longer be possible since the Nigerian forward has left as well, citing the tumult in the back end of the club as one of the reasons.

Shree Cement, the main investors in East Bengal are at a disagreement with the club officials and that has led to a lot of heat between the two parties. East Bengal are unwilling to sign the final agreement given the current terms, and are not giving in to transferring the club’s property to the newly formed joint venture called Shree Cement East Bengal Foundation.
