Marvel’s Most Powerful Hero Gets the Smallest Screen Time? Sentry’s Doomsday Role Reportedly Cut

For a character built entirely around unstoppable power, Sentry might end up being the most underused hero in Avengers: Doomsday.

According to industry insider James Mack, Lewis Pullman’s Sentry was originally planned to have a much larger presence in Avengers: Doomsday, but the current draft has trimmed his role down significantly. Instead of a major arc, reports suggest he’ll now only “have his moments” during the film’s climactic battle sequence — a notable scale-back from what fans were expecting.

What’s Changed in Marvel?

Sentry, introduced in 2025’s Thunderbolts*, quickly became one of the MCU’s most compelling additions. The film explored Bob’s mental health struggles and his transformation into both the godlike Sentry and his destructive counterpart, The Void — a duality drawn straight from the character’s Marvel Comics origins, where his immense power has always been tied to deep psychological instability.

By the end of Thunderbolts*, the team — newly rebranded as the New Avengers — vowed to stay close to Bob, aware that unleashing Sentry risked also unleashing The Void. That tension was explicitly set up in the film’s post-credits scene, which was filmed directly on the Doomsday set, fueling expectations that his transformation would be a centerpiece of the next Avengers chapter.

Why This Matters for Fans

Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the largest ensemble films in MCU history, featuring more than 26 heroes including the returning X-Men. With that much ground to cover, and the Multiverse Saga wrapping up alongside it, some trimming was arguably inevitable. Still, given how much narrative weight was placed on Bob’s arc in Thunderbolts*, a reduced role for Sentry feels like a missed opportunity to fans who expected his transformation to be a defining moment of the film. Reports suggest Sentry may still play a pivotal role in preventing an incursion during the film’s final act, which could explain his near-total absence from trailers released so far. If that holds true, his limited appearance might still land as one of the movie’s most powerful moments, even if brief.

And if Doomsday doesn’t give Sentry his due, there’s always Avengers: Secret Wars the following year to pick up where this leaves off. Stay tuned to TechnoSports for more MCU news as Doomsday’s December release approaches.
