For months, fans guessed who was hiding behind the mask leading the Hand in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Was it Mariko Yashida? The Spider-Queen? Nope. The answer is Snow, a brand-new character with no comic book origin, and she’s now the 11th original villain Marvel Studios has created for the MCU.

Who Is Snow, and Why the Hand?
The film brings back the ninja organization first seen in Netflix’s Daredevil. According to the story, Peter Parker had already dismantled the group before the film begins. Then Damage Control official William Metzger, played by Tramell Tillman, recruited the leaderless ninjas as his agency’s private security force.

Snow commands them throughout the movie, stepping into a role once held by Elodie Yung’s Elektra, who is now returning in Daredevil: Born Again.
The 11 Original MCU Villains
| Villain | Where They Appeared |
|---|---|
| Raza | Iron Man |
| Trevor Slattery | Iron Man 3 |
| General Dreykov | Black Widow |
| Xu Wenwu | Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings |
| Tyler Hayward | WandaVision |
| Sylvie | Loki |
| Miss Minutes | Loki |
| Najma | Ms. Marvel |
| Todd Phelps | She-Hulk: Attorney at Law |
| Gravik | Secret Invasion |
| Snow | Spider-Man: Brand New Day |
A few details stand out. Raza is set to return in VisionQuest, and Trevor Slattery got a redemption arc in Wonder Man. Sylvie shares a name with a comic character, but the show’s version is a different person entirely. Todd Phelps hid in plain sight as the troll behind Intelligencia in She-Hulk.
Why Original Villains Matter?
Marvel mostly adapts decades of comic characters, but original creations let writers build threats around a specific story. Wenwu is a good example. The studio avoided adapting the comic Mandarin directly because of its stereotypical roots, and created a fresh warlord instead.
Snow follows that pattern. Her hidden identity kept audiences guessing, and the reveal proves the studio can still surprise fans without leaning on a known name.
What to Watch Next?
- Daredevil: Born Again, where Elektra returns and the Hand’s story may continue.
- VisionQuest, which brings back Raza and Tyler Hayward’s fallout.
- Brand New Day on rewatch, since Snow’s early scenes play differently once you know who she is.
