Marvel Rivals Reveals Mike Smith as the New Voice of Thanos

Josh Brolin’s Mad Titan has a new voice, at least in gaming. NetEase confirmed that Mike Smith will voice Thanos in Marvel Rivals’ Avengers: Endgame mode, and the first trailer already has fans talking. The mode launches October 22.

Who Is Mike Smith?

Smith isn’t a household name, but his voice-acting résumé is solid. His credits include:

• The Drops of God (Yutaka Kanzaki)
• Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island (title role)
• Spy x Family
• Street Fighter 6
• Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury

What the Trailer Shows?

The footage opens with Thanos’ voice echoing across the ruins, declaring, “You defied my mercy; now you shall meet your end!” He then orders his army to attack while Captain America leads the heroes’ charge. Thanos fights with his double-bladed sword and calls the heroes “insects,” a nod to Brolin’s Infinity War line. Smith sounds menacing enough to honor Brolin’s take while making the role his own.

Why This Mode Matters?

This is the biggest piece of the Path to Doomsday roadmap, a months-long run of modes themed on Avengers films. It started with an asymmetrical Loki showdown in April, moved to the defense of Avengers Tower against Ultron in July, and then to October’s Infinity War event. Dropping 50 players into one battle is a fitting finale.

Will Brolin’s Thanos Return to Live-Action?

Brolin last played Thanos in the animated series What If…?, and he has said he’d return if Marvel asked. A full Thanos appearance in Doomsday or Secret Wars looks unlikely, since the spotlight belongs to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. The most natural comeback route is Marvel’s upcoming Nova film, which is expected to explore the fall of Xandar. That is speculation, not confirmation.
