Marcos Alonso in talks with Barcelona over a possible move in June 2022

Marcos Alonso is in talks with Barcelona over a potential move in the summer. The left-back has always been respectful with Chelsea but is seemingly prioritising a return to Spain. And Barcelona are willing to sign him at the end of the season.

He is one of the 3-4 left-backs that the club is keeping tabs on for the summer. If he is signed, he will be playing as a backup for Jordi Alba, who is still the club’s first choice on the left side of the defense.

Marcos Alonso in talks with Barcelona over return to Spain

The Chelsea player has a contract with the club until 2023, and is yet to begin renewal talks. While he has spoken very highly of the team on several occasions, it might be time for him to move on given the current situation.

With Ben Chilwell out injured, Marcos Alonso has been getting regular game time. He has provided some key goals and assists for the Blues this season and is among the best in the world going forward. But, his defending makes him a better option in a back 3 instead of a traditional back 4.

The player has been criticised for his lack of pace and defending skills time and time again. But, in the right system, he can be a very effective player as he has been for Chelsea on several occasions. If the rumours are true and Barcelona are indeed prioritising Alonso, then they would be getting him alongside Andreas Christensen.
