Sevilla have agreed the signing of Marcao from Galatasaray, making him the first new arrival of the summer. The central defender will be the replacement for Diego Carlos, who left to join Aston Villa.

The 26-year-old is a left-footed centre-back, and will be able to fit on the left side of the central position naturally. The Spanish side has agreed a €12 million fee upfront for the player, with €3 million in add-ons. They have already confirmed his arrival on their official social media accounts, and it is subject to him completing his medicals ahead of the move.

The Brazilian defender will join the first team on their pre-season tour in Seoul, where he will sign his contract. The length of the deal is for five years until 2027.

The 26-year-old came through the Atletico Paranaense academy before making the move to Chaves in Portugal. And a year later, he joined Galatasaray in Turkey. After spending three years with them and winning the domestic double in his debut season, he is now on his way to one of Europe’s big five leagues.

Marcao will be playing Champions League football with Sevilla in the coming season. The team qualified by finishing fourth in La Liga, and will look to add more talent in defense if Jules Kounde leaves the club before the end of the window.
