Manchester United’s Debt is Reduced by £54.6 Million – a Breakdown of Quarterly Results

Last year, revenue was struck hard by the sudden loss of income caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, and while the financial situation is far from normal, the current results show the club’s resilience in the market.

Commercial revenue fell from £46.8 million to £232.2 million in the year ended June 30, owing primarily to the absence of a pre-season tour in 2020 and the closing of the club’s megastore outlet at Old Trafford.

With all but one Premier League game played behind closed doors at Old Trafford, matchday income dropped to only £7.1 million (from £89.8 million) in the twelve months ending June 30.

The return of Champions League football has boosted the club’s fortunes, with a significant increase in television revenue from £140.2 million in 2020 to £254.8 million in 2021, as seen above.

The club’s net debt is also improving, with a massive £54.6 million reduction (from £474.1 million to £419.5 million) recorded. The club announced a 133 percent increase in debt in October of last year.
