The Premier League monthly awards curse seems to have caught up with Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United. Only days after they won all three awards for November, with Alejandro Garnacho winning the goal of the month and Harry Maguire winning the player of the month award, they were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth at home.
The Cherries registered their first-ever win at Old Trafford in their dominant win over the Red Devils. Goals from Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi helped the visitors pick up a statement win. And they could have had a fourth as well, but it was ruled out for a handball in the build-up.
Manchester United humbled at home again after monthly awards
Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund were benched, with Anthony Martial being started up front. In spite of several chances falling to the hosts, some resolute defending denied them the breakthrough. They finished the game with only three shots on target, and were booed off by the home crowd.
Bournemouth punished Manchester United for being sloppy when playing out from the back, with Bruno Fernandes’ intercepted pass causing the first goal. They were unable to regain their composure as the game went on, and the visitors were a step above them throughout the game.
United have now lost their seventh game of the Premier League season, as pressure mounts on Ten Hag. And it won’t let up anytime soon, with games against Bayern Munich and Liverpool to play them in their next games.
