Manchester United players have asked for the end of the season awards to be cancelled after an embarrassing 21/22 season. The team will be finishing with their worst ever points total in the Premier League era even if they win their last game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
They have failed to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League, and are battling for a place in the Europa League heading into the final day. A defeat against Palace, and a win for West Ham United on the final day would drop them down to the Europa Conference League next season.
Manchester United will not be having end of season awards this year
From the thrashing against Liverpool at home to the recent 4-0 battering at the Amex Stadium against Brighton, Manchester United’s season has been extremely poor by their standards.
Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea have emerged as the two players that have helped salvage their season. Both of them have been in exceptional individual form, and have helped United stay in contention for European football next season.
Bruno Fernandes was named the player of the season for the last two years, following his arrival from Sporting. But, the Portuguese midfielder has been unable to replicate his form this season, which has drastically reduced United’s ability to score goals.
A poor defensive performance from Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane has also been one of the main talking points throughout the season, meaning the backline needs serious upgrades over the summer.
