As Sir Alex Ferguson said ‘Attack wins you games but Defense wins you title.’ Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is now following that very well. Last season Manchester City lost the Premier League title to Liverpool by 18 points and finished second with 81 points. Now City are willing to spend some money in order to improve their defence.
They already confirmed the signing of Dutch centre back Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and young winger Ferran Torres from Valencia. Now, they are keen to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The 29-year old Senegalese centre back has already agreed on personal terms with Manchester City. So it is just a matter of time till Manchester City and Napoli agree on the transfer fee.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano wrote on Instagram: “Manchester are preparing a new bid to sign Kalidou Koulibaly. The two clubs are not directly in talks because of the Jorginho deal [two years ago, deal agreed with Man City then hijacked by Chelsea]. The agent of Koulibaly, Fali Ramadani, is working to find an agreement soon.”
“Napoli won’t accept less than €75m [add ons included] to sell their centre-back on this summer. “Man City, PSG and Manchester United are the clubs that can pay for Koulibaly”, president de Laurentiis said few days ago expecting new bids.”
“Personal terms have been already agreed with Manchester City. But the negotiation between the two clubs is still slow because of their bad relationship. Key days are coming.”
Manchester City were previously focusing on signing Barcelona legend Lionel Messi and hoped to reunite him with Pep Guardiola. But Messi has announced that he will stay at Barcelona for the upcoming season at least.
So now City has turned their focus back on Koulibaly to improve their defence. He has been one of the best defenders in Serie A for the last few years. So, if City can bring him to the Etihad he can prove to be the focal point of City’s defence next season.
