According to reports, Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Haaland has turned down a hefty contract offer from Manchester City.
Haaland Rejecting the Offer
The Premier League leaders reportedly offered Haaland a deal worth roughly €28 million net per year, according to sources. However, the 21-year-old and his agent, Mina Raiola, seek a deal worth closer to €30 million per year net. City is expected to counter with a better offer, although the parties have yet to reach an agreement at the time of writing.
Since joining Die Schwarzgelben in January 2020 for €20 million from Red Bull Salzburg, Haaland has scored an astounding 80 goals in 83 appearances. The Bundesliga team, on the other hand, appears to be on the verge of losing their best player this summer. At the end of April, Haaland and his crew will decide where they want to go with their lives.
In his current deal, the striker has a €75 million release clause. For such a productive center-forward, this is a great deal. According to another allegation from Marca, the Norwegian’s total fees could reach €350 million, including wages, agent fees, and other expenses.
City Still wants to Sign Haaland
Last summer, City attempted but failed to capture Harry Kane from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Since then, they have gone the entire season without a recognized center-forward. Manager Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, will undoubtedly leap at the chance to work with one of the most intriguing young players in the world.
Not having a striker in their lineup, the Sky Blues are still in first place in the Premier League, with a one-point lead over second-placed Liverpool. They also defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, March 5.
Dortmund’s striker has always preferred to play in Spain than England, which bodes well for Barcelona and Real Madrid. The youthful forward is a target for Barcelona, who see him as a headline signing to develop around as the club enters a new era. However, completing the transfer would be incredibly difficult for Barca.
