Manchester City are currently in contact with Aston Villa for their captain, Jack Grealish. The Premier League champions have offered upwards of £100 million to sign the player.
The two clubs have gone back and forth about the way the sum will be achieved, and are yet to reach a total agreement for the transfer to go through. Aston Villa have now set a deadline for the deal. It either has to be completed within next week, or Grealish will sign a new contract with the club.
This news comes despite him signing a new contract with the Midlands club last summer. Grealish is currently the highest-paid player in the Villa squad, pocketing a wage of £120,000 per week. His current deal runs until 2025, and Villa will give him a sum worth over £200,000 per week to snub Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The 25-year-old was the second-highest assist provider in the Premier League last season, behind Harry Kane. He managed to provide 12 assists despite being injured for the majority of the second half of the campaign. So, we can only imagine what a world-class manager like Pep Guardiola could get out of the playmaker with Kevin De Bruyne alongside him.
Villa would ideally want to keep hold of their captain for the upcoming season. Their willingness to make him stay is shown by the fact that they are willing to break the bank to extend his stay. After a long-drawn saga involving the England international, we will have an answer within the upcoming week.
