There have been rumours that Manchester City want to let go of Riyad Mahrez this summer, but at the moment City want to keep him. That is as stated by Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio on the Here We Go podcast.
City boss Pep Guardiola is happy with him, and he is part of the team and of the project for next season. The Algerian has consistently been involved in first team football, and has only been rotated occasionally due to the hectic schedule that plagues all leagues this season.
The winger has been involved in 38 games this season and has scored 10 goals, whilst assisting 6 goals across all competitions. Mahrez moved to City in 2018 from Leicester City €67.80 million and has two years of contract remaining with the Sky Blues as of now.
The club is also trying to negotiate a new contract with Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne. Aguero’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and Barcelona and Chelsea have been linked with his services. The general feeling is that the striker will decide his future at the end of the season.
They are also in the search for a left-back and Nuno Mendes of Sporting CP is being preferred over Robin Gosens of Atalanta. The general opinion is that he will be perfect for Guardiola’s system of play. Sporting have a release clause worth €70 million, so it will not be very easy for them to sign Mendes given the current financial climate. But one can never truly rule transfers out for City due to their incredible financial backing.
