Mad Concrete Dreams Episode 1 Recap — The Man Who Risked Everything

Episode 1 opens with Ki Su-jong, a struggling landlord who bought the modest three-story Seyun Building by risking everything he had. Tell-Tale TV Despite technically being a property owner, his life is anything but comfortable — he distributes flyers and takes delivery gigs just to cover loan interest. Even his wife’s birthday present comes from a second-hand deal.

Mad Concrete Dreams

Into this pressured life enters the suspicious Real Capital group, a mysterious loan company with aggressive eyes on his building. When Detective Kim Gyun — an old friend investigating Real Capital’s shady loan practices — is killed in what appears to be a staged car accident, Su-jong is left shaken and guilt-ridden after learning Kim Gyun had recently applied for his severance pay intending to lend it to him.

After returning to the Seyun Building to contact the police, Su-jong hears strange banging from an empty underground freezer. When he opens the door, he finds his friend Min Hwal-seong — and inside the same space, Hwal-seong’s wife Jeon Yi-gyeong, tied up and kidnapped. Tell-Tale TV Episode 1 ends with Su-jong having been unknowingly pulled into a staged kidnapping scheme.

Episode 2 Recap — The Fake Crime Goes Too Real

In episode 2, Ki Su-jong wavers in the face of a lucrative offer from Hwal-seong to join his fake-kidnapping scheme. Desperate for money, he is tempted by the dangerous plan to extort a ransom from Hwal-seong’s wealthy mother-in-law. IMDb

Su-jong disguises his voice during a phone call with Hwal-seong’s mother-in-law and briefly shows Yi-gyeong to confirm the abduction is real. However, grief over Kim Gyun’s death eventually breaks Su-jong’s composure and he breaks down in tears in front of his family. Tell-Tale TV

By the episode’s end, Yi-gyeong manages to escape during the ransom exchange — but Hwal-seong accidentally falls from the bridge. Tell-Tale TV The fake kidnapping has now spiralled into a genuine crisis with real consequences.
