Luka Modric ruled out for Copa del Rey final on May 6; Man City first leg remains a doubt

Luka Modric will not be available for Real Madrid‘s Copa del Rey final against Osasuna on May 6. The midfielder has suffered a hamstring tear, and will be out for two weeks. His involvement in their Champions League semi-final first leg against Manchester City remains a doubt as well.

The veteran was forced off the pitch during Real Madrid’s shocking 4-2 defeat against Girona. “He has had a small injury and it depends on how it evolves. I don’t know if he will reach the Cup final, we must evaluate him. We are hurt, but it can happen. I hope he recovers,” Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said after the game.

Luka Modric to miss Copa del Rey final with hamstring injury

“In terms of characteristics, it is [Dani] Ceballos, but we have different resources, we have very good midfielders like [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Eduardo] Camavinga in order to replace Luka. He’s a very important player, nobody can replace him in terms of experience in these types of games, but I won’t complain, because we have midfielders of the highest level,” Ancelotti said when asked about the players that can replace Luka Modric.

The 37-year-old has featured regularly in the starting line-up and has been just as important towards the team’s success in spite of his age. Madrid will certainly miss his experience and quality in midfield over the next few weeks. But, they have enough talent to cover for him, as Ancelotti mentioned.
