Luka Modric holds the great distinction of being the only player who broke the Ronaldo-Messi duopoly on the Ballon d’Or trophy. He is the only Ballon d’Or winner in the Messi-Ronaldo era.
Despite being 36 years old, the Croatian is still going strong. He will most definitely once again try to take his team all the way in the upcoming Qatar World Cup 2022 after being runners up in 2018.
Modric is also, still a vital part of the Real Madrid midfield. He continues to run the Madrid midfield from the middle of the park with his outstanding vision of the game.
Luka Modric doesn’t feel like stopping yet and may continue to play football till 40
Luka Modric was present at the launch of the ‘Sportening’ app, in which he is an investor. He spoke about his career and his longevity on the football field.
He said, via Marca: “I don’t know when I’ll keep playing until, maybe about 40, we’ll see.”
“I have to take it step-by-step, enjoy what I’m doing. I feel good physically, which is important, mentally as well. I’m at a huge club, the best club in the world without a doubt, and I’m working hard to keep my level as high as possible.
“We’ll see how long it is, but talking about years is difficult. I’m almost 37 and I feel great to be honest. I’ve worked outside of Valdebebas and the club’s facilities to find out where I can improve, where I can stay on top physically.”
The Croatian isn’t making any retirement plans, then, and he said he doesn’t have any plans for the future at all. As he approaches a decade in a Real Madrid shirt, he’s just enjoying the moment.
“In my time at Real Madrid I’ve achieved more than I expected or hoped for, because it’s been almost 10 years now in this dream,” said Modric.
“It would be difficult to write down everything that’s happened to me in these 10 years. Also, my relationship with the club is perfect, and with the fans, too.
“From the first moment, they have taken to me and trusted me, supported me, and that has helped me achieve everything I have and to keep going.”
