The most important transfer saga of the summer transfer window was of Lionel Messi wanting to leave Barcelona. He sent a burofax asking to terminate his contract but Bartomeu was hell-bent on not letting Messi Leave the Cam Nou.

Messi’s contract with Barcelona end in 2021 so he can now sign a pre-contract with any club he wishes for and there’s no sign of Messi wanting to renew his Barcelona deal.

Luis Figo has now made a bold statement that he can see Messi leaving Barcelona.

Fati, Coutinho and Messi impress as Barca break the curse of Balaidos

Figo said as a guest at the MARCA Sport Weekend: “I watched the thing with Messi and his attempt to leave Barcelona this summer like all football fans: expectantly and surprised,”

“He’ll have his motives and reasons for making that decision. I don’t know what happened beforehand.

“Every club wants to have a player like Messi, but then it depends on factors like the current financial situation at the club, the money he’ll cost the club in wages, the will of the player…

“But generally, in life, if you don’t want to be somewhere, in the end, there’s nothing that can change your mind.”

If Messi leaves Barcelona next summer, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are in front of the line to sign the Argentine.
