Lucasfilm and EA has a break-up

Lucasfilm and Electronic Arts have a long-standing relationship, and EA developed all the Star War games from the series. We all know how degrading the experience it had been with the Star War games, I mean, we know the latest movies don’t leave up to Luke Skywalker and Han Solo’s reputation, but the games, in particular, were disappointing.

But now it seems that Lucasfilm, the studio that owns the franchise has finally started to realize and recognize the importance of their games. The studio announced that it has now partnered with Ubisoft to develop a story-driven, open-world Star Wars game.

A few days back the company unveiled its Lucasfilm Games branding and announced the same for all its games in the future. and now the company announced the end of its near-decade-long relation with Electronic Arts.

The deal with Lucasfilm and EA gave the latter exclusive right to produce and publish Star Wars games. The deal was heavily criticized as it didn’t leave room for any improvement. The deal didn’t allow any other third party to get involved in the game’s production. But the games produced by EA has not lived up to the expectations of the fans of the franchise. Lucasfilm saw these mistakes by EA and is correcting the issue.

“We’re looking to work with best-in-class teams that can make great games across all of our IP. We’ve got a team of professionals here at Lucasfilm Games who can work with the developers, shape the stories, shape the creative, shape the games, to make them resonate with fans, and deliver across a breadth of platforms, genres, and experiences so that all of our fans can enjoy the IPs that they know and love.”

Ubisoft’s proprietary Snowdrop Engine will be used in the future games of Star Wars and it creates stunning realistic and immersive environments. “This is just the beginning of what I think is going to be a very exciting year for Lucasfilm Games.”

With the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, we can expect Lucasfilm to play it big.
