Lucas Hernandez to PSG rumours latest: Lucas Hernandez is set to join PSG, with Bayern agreeing a fee worth €50 million for the transfer. He is currently in Paris for the medical and the formalities and an official statement confirming his arrival is expected soon.
The defender is currently recovering from an ACL injury, but the French club is keen on bringing him to Ligue 1. The expectation is that he will be fit in time for the new season.
The communication was clear from the management that if he didn’t extend his contract, he would be sold. And after being unable to reach an agreement, he has now decided to take up a new challenge in France.
The player asked to leave Bayern this summer, making the transfer much more likely to happen. Under the previous management of Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn, Lucas Hernandez was considered untouchable. But that has completely changed under the new management, with the centre-back now moving on.
Lucas Hernandez to PSG: Why are Bayern selling him?
Hernandez has struggled with several injuries during his time with Bayern. This year, he was restricted to only 11 appearances across all competitions.
The French centre-back has been with Bayern Munich since 2019, after making an €80 million move from Atletico Madrid. He has won four Bundesliga titles with the club during his time so far, and was also a part of the squad that won the sextuple in 2020. Hernandez also won the 2018 World Cup with the France squad in Russia.
Bayern want to recoup much of the €80 million they spent on him four years ago and as a result, they have negotiated a deal worth €50 million for the player.
Lucas Hernandez to PSG rumours: Why are PSG in the race?
PSG have been left short-staffed in central defence after the departure of Sergio Ramos. The former Real Madrid skipper left the club after his contract expired at the end of the season. As a result, PSG will need new defenders for the coming season. Lucas Hernandez still has a few years left at the top, being 27 years old.
And a return to his native country should help him settle in much faster.
The Parisians are working on several deals at the moment, but after offloading Layvin Kurzawa and Juan Bernat, they will turn their attention to an opening bid for the defender. Lucas Hernandez is open to signing for the Ligue 1 winners, but negotiations will have to take place soon over the fee involved.
Who will replace Lucas Hernandez at Bayern?
Although Bayern Munich have Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs De Ligt as the first-choice central defenders in their line-up, they could use a third option. Especially since Thomas Tuchel has used the 3 at the back system during his time at the club.
Napoli’s Kim Min Jae is set to replace the World Cup winner at Bayern, with the Bavarians agreeing a five-year deal for a move.
