Liverpool’s transfer strategy is SUPER clinical with Jota as the recent example

Despite earning a hefty sum of money from their success in the Champions League, Super Cup, Club World Cup and Premier League, Liverpool have not spent an extravagant amount of money on transfers this summer.

While a part of that can be accounted for by the finances being impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, there is more to the story. And that is Liverpool’s brilliant transfer strategy.

Every club undergoing a rebuilding phase has to spend the big bucks to achieve silverware. While it is not the most respectable way of going about things, it is a fact backed up by the numbers.

The Merseyside club spent a hefty fee on Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker a few years ago. This summer, they have invested in Thiago Alcantara, Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota primarily. Their net spend has been €80 million.

Considering the fact that the club were hesitant on spending in excess of €30 million for Thiago, the reason why the club spent €44 million on Jota is becoming increasingly clear now.

The 23-year-old has adapted to the Champions League amazingly and has made the jump from Europa League to the Champions League flawlessly. In 3 games this season, he has scored 4 goals, with a hat-trick to his name against Atalanta most recently.

The Portuguese forward is giving Jurgen Klopp a pretty good reason as to why he should start over Firminho.

Considering it has been pouring goals for the forward since he joined the club in the summer, the fact that Firminho is a defensive striker seems something that can be overlooked when the goals come steaming in the way they have for Jota.

While Thiago has been out due to injury and Covid, it is only a matter of time before the former Bayern man starts racking it up in the league. We saw a glimpse of his prowess in a brief display against Chelsea, and have been left wanting more.

Liverpool choose their targets carefully and have managed to get their man on most occasions. While a centre back would have been a noteworthy addition considering recent events, the additions that have gone through are worth every penny spent.
