Lionel Messi’s six Argentina shirts worn at the 2022 World Cup are set to become the most expensive sports memorabilia of all-time. The Barcelona icon finally completed his trophy cabinet after lifting the gold trophy in Qatar, and the shirts he wore from the tournament are now expected to be auctioned.
According to Sotheby, the collection is set to fetch over $10 million which will shatter the record for the most expensive sports memorabilia of all-time. The current record is held by Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA finals jersey, which was auctioned for $10.1 million in 2022.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner would also surpass Diego Maradona for the most expensive football memorabilia. The legendary “Goal of the Century” and “Hand of God” shirts went for around £7 million. Now, Messi’s six shirts will be sold for around £8 million to set another record.
Messi’s run at Qatar was nothing short of miraculous, with the forward finally getting his hands on the trophy after falling short in 2014. Now, he is expected to captain the national side into Copa America 2024. And there are rumours that he could continue till the 2026 World Cup if they win the tournament once again.
