Lionel Messi has revealed that he fears missing out on the 2022 World Cup due to injury. The PSG star is currently sidelined due to a calf injury he sustained, and has missed the last two games for the club as a result.

With the World Cup only a month away, the forward has admitted that he is doubtful about his fitness condition heading into the competition. Messi confirmed that it would be the last World Cup of his career, and it would be tragic if he did not make it.

Lionel Messi speaks about injury issues ahead of the World Cup

Here is what Messi told DirecTV Sports: “Injuries are a worry.

🗣 Lionel Messi on injuries before the 2022 World Cup: "It's a concern. This is a different World Cup because it's played at a different time than previous ones. And we are so close that any little thing that can happen to you can leave you out." This via DirectTV. 🇦🇷 pic.twitter.com/I1XWcd8QiQ

“This is a different World Cup which is played at a different time of the year to previous tournaments and it’s so imminent any little thing that happens to you can force you out.

“With what happened to Dybala and Di Maria, the truth is that personally you worry and you’re more afraid when you see those sorts of things.”

“It’s something you think about but I feel going out to play with that in your head can be contradictory as well.

“The best thing you can do is perform as normal and play your game as you always do.

“I hope Di Maria and Dybala recover in time. They have enough time to do so and reach the tournament in good shape.”

Lionel Messi will be leading the Argentina national team as their captain if he makes it to the squad. And his country is one of the favorites to win the tournament, on the back of an unbelievable run of 35 games unbeaten.
