The uncertainty surrounding Lionel Messi’s club future seems to be clearing, now that the 2022 World Cup is in the history books. The Argentine is expected to continue with PSG, who were strongly in favour of keeping him for at least another year.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, the World Cup winner has accepted the proposal from the French side. No decision has been made on the length of his contract or the salary that he will earn. For now, there is only a verbal agreement between the two parties to extend the deal. The details will be finalised in a meeting, which will take place very soon.
Lionel Messi to stay at PSG for the coming season
There were rumours suggesting that Messi had reached an agreement with MLS club Inter Miami. But, there was never a total agreement in place between him and Miami. And now, he will be continuing with Paris Saint-Germain, with some rumours also suggesting that a return to Barcelona could be in the works.
While it is true that both clubs had approached Lionel Messi, he never had an agreement with either side. The 35-year-old will not be retiring from the Argentina national team just yet either. He has revealed that he wants to continue playing as a world champion.
So, there is still more to come from the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has had a great performance with PSG this season. He has hit double digits in goals and assists, and could be en route to win the Champions League with the French side if all goes according to plan.
