Lenovo is turning heads once again with the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, a laptop so innovative it feels like it’s straight out of a sci-fi movie. First revealed as a concept, this rollable-display laptop is now a reality, and it’s set to launch in India and worldwide in Q1 2025 at an eye-watering price of $3,499 (around ₹2.89 lakhs). Here’s everything you need to know about this groundbreaking device that’s redefining how we think about laptops.

Why the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Stands Out

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 doesn’t just look like a traditional 14-inch productivity laptop. Its magic lies in the rollable OLED display that extends upward with the press of a button or a gesture. When fully extended, the screen transforms into a 16.7-inch display, offering a tall 2000×2350 resolution perfect for multitasking, viewing tall spreadsheets, or stacking windows vertically.

This innovative feature is powered by small motors in the hinge that unroll and retract the flexible OLED screen. It’s not just a gimmick; Lenovo has tested the mechanism for durability, promising it can handle at least 20,000 rolls without breaking a sweat.

Design and Performance

Compact & Modern: In its standard mode, the ThinkBook looks sleek with a 14-inch screen boasting a 2000×1600 resolution.
Flexible Display: The extended screen mode offers unmatched real estate, though some creases on the OLED might be noticeable at certain angles.
Build Confidence: Despite its futuristic tech, Lenovo has ensured the laptop is durable and travel-friendly, handling a backpack test with ease.
Lightweight Productivity: Packed with up to Intel Core Ultra 7 processors, 32GB DDR5x RAM, and 1TB SSD, this device means business.

Quirks and Challenges

While the hardware is a showstopper, software limitations could dampen the excitement. For instance:

The extra screen space behaves as a second monitor, which Windows doesn’t currently support natively.
Users need to rely on Lenovo’s custom software to pin apps or Windows to the lower half of the extended display.
Port options are minimal, with just two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone jack, making adapters essential for professionals.

For the Indian Audience

India’s growing tech-savvy user base might find this device exciting for its potential to transform workflows, especially for creative professionals and multitaskers. However, its premium price tag positions it as a luxury gadget, best suited for those who value innovation and are willing to invest in cutting-edge tech.

Should You Buy It?

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 is a conversation starter and a peek into the future of laptops. However, with software and compatibility concerns, it might be wise to wait for updates or more hands-on reviews. If you’re ready to embrace the rollable life, this laptop could be your next favourite gadget.
