Lenovo Tab P12 review: A huge tablet to saviour for only ₹25k

Looking to buy a new tablet in the mid-range price segment without compromising on the display? Yes, a lot of people love big displays on tablets but aren’t willing to pay hefty prices for them. Lenovo is here to give them a bigger experience at affordable pricing. Originally launched for Rs. 35k, the new Lenovo Tab P12 is now on sale for ₹24,999, making this an ideal time to buy.

But wait, should you buy it? Well, this is the question we will try to answer moving forward in this quick review of the Lenovo Tab P12. Carrying all the goodness of the Tab P series, this one too offers a sleek metal unibody design with a gorgeous 3K display, all the latest connectivity features, and a huge 10,200mAh battery.

All of this for a mid-range price makes this Lenovo Tab P12 a value-for-money proposition, but whether it’s viable for you or not, let’s explore:

Lenovo Tab P12 Specifications

  • 12.7 Inch | 3K Display (2944 x 1840) | 1 Billion Color Depth
  • 8 GB RAM | 256 GB ROM, Expandable up to 1 TB
  • Quad JBL Speakers, optimized with Dolby Atmos
  • Android 13 | Battery: 10200 mAh
  • WiFi 6 Certified, Bluetooth 5.1 | USB Type-C

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo Tab P12 is unquestionably a well-made gadget because of its metal unibody construction and matte coating on the sides and back, which prevents fingerprints from sticking. I didn’t detect much of a weight difference between it and the new OnePlus Pad Go or iPad, which are comparable in this price category, despite its enormous size.

Notable features of the Tab P12 include a fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the power button. Additionally, if you purchase the Lenovo keyboard folio, it can be quickly and simply linked to the tablet using the pogo pins located at the bottom of the device. The sensor is quick and responsive.

Although it appears large, its build quality and design make it very portable, even when used as a secondary device alongside your laptop.

Display

The key feature that this Lenovo Tab P12 offers is its big 12.7-inch 3K LCD display, which is quite bright and colourful, obviously, one of the best for the price at which it comes in. However, it has a 60Hz refresh rate, which I think could have been 90Hz like the OnePlus Pad Go, but nevertheless, this is the sacrifice you need to make for a bigger display with slim bezels.

If you talk about the experience I have had with the tablet’s display, it is really good. The video quality enhancement or eye care features do really help to use the tablet for a longer period of time. From watching Netflix to YouTube, binge-watching on this is absolutely next-level. I really enjoyed the modern aspect ratio, as you can enjoy the content all across the big 12.7-inch display.

Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC and up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage power the Lenovo Tab P12, resulting in a fluid daily experience. The mid-range Dimesity chip here does provide smooth usage with almost no lag or stutter unless you do something heavy like photo editing or even gaming, but even for basic games like Asphalt, Angry Birds, or Candy Crush, the SoC is much better.

From opening multiple Chrome tabs to switching between various apps, I do like the performance overall but do not expect flagship-level smoothness. The performance is slightly better than the Helio G99, which I saw on the OnePlus Pad Go, and that is evident in the benchmark scores as well:

Both in Geekbench and AnTuTu, you will see average results, and for a mid-range tablet like this, the performance numbers are quite satisfactory and good enough for most users.

Buttons and Connectivity

Talking about buttons, you get a USB Type-C at the bottom with volume rockers on the right-hand side, a power button, and a microSD card slot on the top.

In terms of connectivity, the Lenovo Tab P12 offers the latest WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, which in this range is reasonably better than the competition. The network speeds are also quite fast because of the latest Wi-Fi 6, and connecting to multiple devices has never been easier.

Audio and Camera

Any tablet these days has to have good audio quality, and Lenovo didn’t compromise that on this Tab P12 with Quad JBL Speakers optimized with Dolby Atmos, which gives a wholesome audio experience. Whether you watch movies or listen to music, the Lenovo Tab P12 gets the job done pretty conveniently. Talking about the camera here, you get both 13MP front and 8MP rear shooters, that really works well when needed.

Software

Another key upside of this new Lenovo Tab P12 tablet is its latest near-stock Android 13 UI, which makes the experience even better. With minimal bloatware and useful features, this tablet can easily be your secondary device because of a cleaner UI that doesn’t lag or look shabby by any chance. I definitely liked using the big display here with the UI, and overall, the software experience is quite good.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Tab P12 boasts a massive 10200 mAh battery that is one of the highest in this price range and ensures days of battery life with a single charge. You can comfortably use it for 2 days with medium work and stream many movies without worrying about the battery life unless you are watching at full brightness.

Even the standby time is quite good. So, it’s good to see that even though it has a massive size, the tablet has a sizeable battery to give enough juice to get going all day; however, the charging speed is a bit slow.

Verdict

Now, the biggest question we have to answer is whether you should buy the Lenovo Tab P12, now starting at ₹24,999. Well, yes, it’s a great product with almost everything you could ask for. Though there is no 5G or higher refresh rate panel, hey, no product is perfect, so, I won’t complain because of the price, Lenovo is offering a good value-for-money tablet.
