Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen review: OLED tablet with mediocre performance

Here we have the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen in for review, though this is a 2022 model but a good choice in that Rs.40k price segment, retailing for ₹44,999 which is quite similar to the iPad 10th Gen pricing. Now, the first thing that comes to your mind is why should you buy this Android tablet over an iPad, well, the biggest pull of this Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen is its OLED display and pure Android experience.

Already we reviewed the first-gen of this tablet almost 2 years ago but it’s good that Lenovo is still offering the core elements of this series. However, is it enough for you to consider this tablet? Let’s find out in our detailed review of this Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen after using it as my secondary device for some time now:

Design & Build Quality

Well, if you are someone who wants to flaunt your tablet in front of others, then the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen is one of the best for the price. The aluminum unibody design looks as well as feels great on the hands and sports a unique dual-tone finish to complement a clean, contemporary profile.

It’s not the biggest tablet out there with a smaller screen size but it’s easier to hold and with narrow bezels, it’s easier to hold on your hands as well as carry with the keypad folio. It’s just 6.8 mm thin and 480 gm light, so as I was saying this iPad is a very modern-looking sleek, premium device.

Excellent Display

The 11.2 inch 2.5K (2560*1536) OLED display on this Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen is the main show here because as we all know OLED displays are expensive but have got cheaper in recent years. So, this Rs.40k price is quite hefty no doubt but you will enjoy the deep blacks and contrast because of the OLED panel here.

The quality of the OLED panel is excellent, and goes very bright with a rich contrast ratio, meaning deeper blacks and colors look excellent on this tablet. I enjoyed playing movies; thanks to Dolby Vision and TÜV Rheinland eye comfort certification, you can continuously watch anything without any issues.

Also, if you are mediaholic, you will love this Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen tablet as it’s Netflix HD certified and supports high-quality FHD streaming with Dolby Vision for supported apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar, and others. Overall, for most users, the display remains the USP here and you will enjoy the breathtaking OLED panel given here.

Performance

Lenovo has increased the performance of this Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen by upgrading to Mediatek Kompanio 1300T paired with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, which can be expanded up to 1TB. This looks to be a good combo in itself with the stock Android experience but to my surprise, the tablet isn’t the most fluid one because while it handles everyday tasks gently but struggles sometimes with animations and UI.

AnTuTu

While opening apps or doing heavy work with the provided Precision Pen 3 sometimes could struggle and so it isn’t the one that you will recommend for fluid performance lovers. The ones who want better performance on an Android can go for the newer OnePlus Pad or an iPad anyways. However, the Kompanio 1300T isn’t bad though as you see in the benchmarks but it’s pretty average, and considering the competition is getting fierce in the Rs.40k price range, this tablet is mostly suitable for light to medium-end work.

Camera, Audio, and Connectivity

You do get a 13 MP Rear Camera and an 8 MP Front Camera, which does the job decently, nothing too extraordinary I would say. Also coming to the audio, you do get quad speakers optimized with Dolby Atmos, which, I liked in terms of quality, not the loudest but yes it’s adequate for most users.

You do have the USB Type-C port here, however, the Wi-Fi connectivity is good but lags behind when you are a bit far from the router, which is quite strange.

Clean Android Experience

Android devices these days are flooded with bloatware and unnecessary apps, which really slows down the experience. However, Lenovo has used a clean stock Android 12 experience to make things simpler for you and also make the tablet run faster; the P11 Pro 2nd Gen runs smoothly for basic everyday work.

I am impressed with the very clean, minimal pure Android UI, which gets its desktop-like style when attached to the keyboard folio. I don’t know why Samsung or OnePlus isn’t using pure stock Android on their tablets because they don’t have a lot of features that this Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen is offering in terms of UI.

The Android 12 brings a dedicated pane for Entertainment space which shows you various recommendations from Google TV, Hotstar, Netflix, Prime Video, and others in the Watch section. Whereas in the Games section, you get a variety of game suggestions as well as instant games to play, while in the Read section, you can browse various books, ebooks, and other stuff. Also, you have Google Kids Space, young ones can discover and express their curiosity toward learning and growing.

Battery Life

Lenovo has stacked in a big 8000 mAH battery which should be good enough for an entire day of usage right? Well, it depends, if you use it for writing, browsing, or even for high-paced movie streaming, the battery drains pretty fast, not as efficient as the new OnePlus Pad, but, is decent enough for most users with a screen-on-time of about 4-5 hours with higher brightness.

Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen

Verdict

For ₹44,999, it’s hard to recommend a 2022 product like Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen but yes it’s no doubt a good product but has its own shortcomings. Considering the incredible rise of iPads, their way high-standard iPadOS, and their performance, tablets have got a new perspective in 2023, where this Tab P11 Pro 2nd Gen is somewhat lost.

It is no doubt the pure Android experience alongside a great OLED display, Lenovo has given the best efforts to satisfy the customers but lacks in terms of performance. Most people will love the Android tablet for basic usage and media consumption primarily, because seeing the competition this year in the tablet space, Lenovo has to up its game for the 2023 model.
