The Leica Leitz Phone 2 is the second generation phone that the German camera manufacturer has unveiled today. Leica released the Leitz Phone 1—its first smartphone bearing its brand—in Japan last year in collaboration with Sharp and SoftBank.
Leica Leitz Phone 2 specifications
Leitz Phone 2, which was recently released, is based on the Sharp Aquos R7, just like Leitz Phone 1, which was based on the Aquos R6. Only the colocoloreme and software have been significantly altered from the original phone.
The only available colour for the Leica Leitz Phone 2 is “Leica White.” The Leitz Phone 1 came in black, for those who were unaware.
The body of the smartphone is oddly devoid of any “Leica” branding. Instead, “Leitz” branding is used. It is visible on the camera ring, in the middle of the back panel, and on the metal lens cap attachment that comes with the camera.
With a customized interface Leica-inspired, the gadget boots Android 12 out of the box. There is a unique LFI widget included with it that displays images taken by Leica photographers.
Leica M lenses are stimulated by the camera app’s “Leitz looks” feature.
The quick settings in the app are modeled after the user interface of a Leica camera, and there are options for the Leica M series shutter sound and Leica filters as well.
The Leica Leitz Phone 2 is an identical Sharp Aquos R7 inside and out, save from the aforementioned alterations.
Consequently, it has a 1-inch, 47.2 MP picture sensor with an f/1.9 lens. A 1.9MP depth sensor is connected to the primary camera. A 12.6MP camera for selfies and video calls is located on the front.
The device has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The storage can be increased by up to 1TB using the MicroSD card slot.
It sports a Pro IGZO OLED display with a 2730 x 1260 (WUXGA+) resolution, 10-bit colour depth, 240Hz refresh rate, and 2,000 nits of maximum brightness. An ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is hidden beneath the centered punch-hole panel, which also supports Dolby Vision.

The smartphone also has a USB Type-C port, a 5,000mAh battery, an IP68 rating (dust and water resistance), sub-6GHz 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GNSS, NFC, and wireless charging.
In Japan, the cost of the Leica Leitz Phone 2 is 225,360 yen ($1,540). Beginning November 18, it will be available for purchase.
Like the Leitz Phone 1, this one might only be sold in the Japanese market.
