Sinner follows Seok Gyu (Jung Sung Il), a nominee for Minister of Justice, as he prepares for a confirmation hearing and begins uncovering the truth behind a past incident connected to letters written by Soon Hwa (Park Ji Hyun), South Korea’s last death row inmate.

A ministerial nominee, a death row prisoner’s letters, and buried truths — the premise is the kind of slow-burning, morally layered storytelling that Korean cinema has mastered, and the casting of Jung Sung Il and Park Ji Hyun already signals serious dramatic weight.

What Role Does Lee Jun Young Play?

His agency BILLIONS shared, “Lee Jun Young will appear in Sinner and transform into an impactful character. The film is currently in post-production.” Lee Jun Young is said to play a character who triggers an emotional explosion among the film’s characters during a key highlight of the story.

A character who triggers an emotional explosion — that’s the kind of role that tends to linger with audiences long after the credits roll, regardless of screen time. Special appearances in Korean films often carry outsized narrative weight, and this one sounds like it’s been crafted with real intention.

What Else Is Lee Jun Young Working On?

Currently, Lee Jun Young is set to star in the upcoming JTBC weekend drama Reborn Rookie, which will premiere on May 30.

His plate is clearly full — and based on the calibre of projects he’s choosing, it looks like 2026 is shaping up to be a major year for the actor. Korean films dealing with capital punishment and the justice system have a rich tradition of exploring institutional and moral complexity, and Sinner looks set to continue that legacy.
