At the I/O conference year, Google unveiled its ever-foldable smartphone, known as the Pixel Fold. This initial version of the Pixel Fold was introduced in the US. Came with features such, as the Tensor G2 chipset, a 7.6-inch screen, and a compact foldable design. Now there’s growing excitement about the release of the second-generation Pixel Fold this year. A recent leak has provided some insights into its design changes.
The Leaked Google Pixel Fold 2
According to information shared by Android Authority, an image showing the unfolded Pixel Fold 2 has emerged. The image reveals the panel and cover screen of the device. Based on this leak it seems that compared to its predecessor the cover screen of the Pixel Fold 2 might be slightly narrower in size. Some reports suggest that its form factor could resemble that of another smartphone model called OnePlus Open. Additionally, rumors indicate that both inner and outer displays of the Pixel Fold 2 will have edges, complemented by a premium aluminum frame. Despite these improvements, it’s expected that a visible crease will still be present on this device.
The Pixel Fold 2 is expected to undergo some design changes in its camera setup. Of having a camera bar like before it is speculated that this new version might feature a camera module positioned at the top left corner.
This module seems to house four sensors, which could possibly include a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a periscope telephoto lens. The exact purpose of this sensor configuration has not been revealed yet. It is speculated that it could serve as a temperature sensor, to the Pixel 8 Pro or have a different function altogether.
Interestingly rumors suggest that the Pixel Fold 2 will have a display cutout in the corner for its interior display, which deviates from the top bezel camera placement seen in the original Pixel Fold design. It’s important to mention that the design we see now represents a stage of the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) phase, for the Pixel Fold 2. This implies that there may be alterations made before its release.
Expected to be launched alongside the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro in October the timing of the Pixel Fold 2s release is attributed to its anticipated use of Tensor G4 chipset of Tensor G3 chipset used in Pixel 8. As a result, it’s possible that Google may not unveil another device at this year’s I/O conference.
