What Can We Expect from Lavaste? Review of the Movie

“Lavaste,” directed by Sudeesh Kanaujia, delves into the thought-provoking theme of societal neglect towards aging parents and the tragedy of unclaimed bodies. The film follows Satyansh, whose confronting new job prompts him to question the abandonment of elderly parents by their busy, success-driven children. As fate leads him to a similar predicament, the narrative explores whether he inadvertently follows the same path of neglect in pursuit of his career.

The film’s relevance lies in its exploration of a topic ubiquitous in contemporary society, prompting discussions on aging, solitude, and familial responsibility. With a compassionate male lead character, the film offers a rare portrayal of empathy in a world that often perceives kindness as a weakness.

However, “Lavaste” struggles with a one-dimensional portrayal of relationships and life, attempting to balance satire and tragicomedy but ultimately succeeding as a family drama. While it raises essential questions about parental care and accountability, the narrative feels dated and lacks a nuanced exploration of the complexities inherent in parent-child relationships.

Despite these shortcomings, “Lavaste” is buoyed by earnest performances, particularly from Omkar Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, and Brijendra Kala. While Kapoor’s portrayal may feel sanitized for the setting, his sincerity resonates with viewers. Joshi brings depth to his character, infusing life into the storyline, while Kala strikes a balance between humor and heart.

In essence, “Lavaste” is worth watching for its sincere intent and the pertinent issues it addresses, despite its narrative flaws. It serves as a reminder of the importance of familial bonds and the need for greater empathy in society, even as it falls short of delivering a fully nuanced exploration of its themes.
