Kylian Mbappe has confirmed that he will not be participating in the 2024 Olympics with the French national team. The striker is currently captaining Les Bleus at the European Championship in Germany, and will be joining his new club, Real Madrid, once the tournament ends.
With the Paris Olympics beginning just ten days after the Euro 2024 finals, Mbappe would not have enough time to rest even if he decided to play. His decision has now been made official, with the French striker declaring that he would support his country from home.

“My club’s position was very clear, so from that moment on, I think I [knew] I won’t be taking part in the Games,” MbappĂ© told reporters ahead of Monday’s Group D match against Austria at Euro 2024.
“That’s just the way it is, and I understand that too. I’m joining a new team in September, so it’s not the best way to start an adventure.
“I’m going to wish this French team all the best. I’m going to watch every game. I hope they’ll win the gold medal.”
In spite of the 25-year-old’s absence, France will have no lack of talent to choose from, given how deep their squad is. Their squad for the Olympics, primarily consisting of under-23 players, is set to be announced in due course.
