Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich ahead of a potential transfer this summer. The England international has been linked with an exit from City over the past few months, and the rumours are finally starting to intensify with news of him now accepting their contract offer until 2025.
With only one year left on his contract with City, now is the best time for the Sky Blues to cash in on the 33-year-old. In spite of being on the wrong side of 30, he has not lost his pace and is able to keep up with young wingers a decade younger than him. He was also the fastest player in the Premier League 22/23 season, confirming that fact.
Kyle Walker linked with Bayern Munich transfer
After spending six years with the Mancunian side since his 2017 move from Tottenham, Walker has won the Champions League with City. He has won the Premier League title five times, two FA Cup titles and four EFL Cups.
With the rise of Rico Lewis through the ranks, the club could undergo a change in their full-back position. The youngster will likely be given more opportunities once Walker has signed for Bayern.
The Bavarians are likely to offload Benjamin Pavard this summer, and will have Noussair Mazraoui and Josip Stanisic as the other right-backs in their squad. Walker will also be able to play as a central defender in a back three, showcasing his versatility.
City are also eager to offload Joao Cancelo ahead of the new season, with the Portuguese full-back not a part of Guardiola’s plans. He spent the latter half of 22/23 at Bayern, but they decided not to activate the buy option in his loan clause, leading to a return to Manchester. Now, he will be offloaded permanently alongside Walker as part of a reshuffling of the squad.
