Kush Maini has become the first Indian driver to win a race in the FIA Formula 2, after winning the Budapest Sprint Race this past weekend. He originally finished in P2, but was boosted up to first place after Richard Verschoor, the winner of the race, was disqualified.

Here is the official statement released by F2 in terms of the post-race findings that led to Verschoor’s disqualification:

“A post-race report by the FIA Technical Delegate indicated that the plank on Car #22 had a maximum thickness of 3.7mm at the most rearward scrutineering hole, below the minimum specified thickness in the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Technical Regulations,” the statement read.

“It was determined that the plank fitted to Verschoor’s car was indeed below the minimum thickness required, therefore breaching Article 3.4.3 of the Technical Regulations, and Car 22 was thus disqualified from the Sprint Race classification.”

While the Invicta driver was named first, Campos Racing’s Isack Hadjar was boosted up to third place to complete the podium. He also earned the point for the fastest lap in the race.

23-year-old Saini was born in Bengaluru, and recently made the switch from Campos to Invictus after an impressive maiden season. After his maiden podium in Australia last year, he has now earned his first win in Formula 2.

Who is leading the F2 Driver’s Championship?
