After many discussions and speculations for the IPL auction venue, Kochi is the approved destination for the event. Istanbul and Bangalore which were supposed to host the auction are now out of the cards. The venue will be officially confirmed after ICC T20 World Cup Finals. This is a mini-auction as every franchise is already having a stable squad which was built in IPL 2022’s Mega Auction.
November 15 is the deadline set by the VCCI for the franchises to send their list of retained players. In this mini-auction, franchises can retain up to 15 players and will have to release the rest 10 players. In IPL 2022, the squad size was a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25.
In IPL 2023 Auction, the total salary purse is Rs 95 Crore. After every franchise sends the list of finalised players, the rest of the amount will be used in the auction. On top of that, the franchises have a leftover amount from IPL 2022, like Punjab Kings having already Rs.3.45 crore in their purse already.
In 2022, the IPL Mega Auction was held in Bangalore in February. Earlier it was in talks that the IPL mini-auction for 2023 will be held in Istanbul, away from home but the latest reports suggest that the mini-auction will be taking place in Kochi on December 23.
The T20 World Cup finale between England and Pakistan is set to be held on November 13 at 1:30 PM IST. Post the march, BCCI will be confirming the date and place for the mini-auction.
The mini-auction will be taking place in just one day. In past, the mini auctions have bought some of the most expensive players. In the 2022 Auction, Punjab, Delhi, and Lucknow bought seven players, it’s possible that this time they’re looking for the same thing.
