Kevin De Bruyne Set for Napoli Switch After Manchester City Exit As Medical and Contract Set for June 2

In a landmark move that could reshape the Italian football landscape, Kevin De Bruyne is on the brink of joining Serie A champions Napoli as a free agent. The Manchester City legend is expected to undergo medical examinations on June 2 before putting pen to paper on a multi-year contract with the Naples-based side. After nearly a decade of success in the Premier League, the Belgian maestro appears to be prioritising a blend of lifestyle and legacy as he prepares for the next chapter of his illustrious career.

A New Era in Naples Awaits

Kevin De Bruyne’s decision to join Napoli marks a significant moment in European football. After his contract with Manchester City expires on June 30, the 33-year-old will officially be free to move.

Reports from Calciomercato.com indicate that his medical will be held at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome, a standard procedure for Napoli signings. The announcement, although not formally confirmed by the club, has been all but acknowledged by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

De Laurentiis All But Confirms the Deal

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI, De Laurentiis offered a strong indication that negotiations with the Belgian star are in their final stages.

“Could De Bruyne be nearby to celebrate Napoli’s title? Probably yes. He bought a beautiful house here in the city, I had a call with him, his wife, and his nine-year-old son this morning, it was a beautiful sight. There is nothing signed yet.“

His comments came during Napoli’s recent Scudetto celebrations, only fuelling speculation about the imminent arrival of De Bruyne.

Personal Ties to Naples

De Bruyne’s move isn’t solely about football. His affection for Naples is well documented, having even chosen the Italian city as the venue for his wedding.

This move appears to be driven by lifestyle preferences as much as professional ambitions. With his family currently vacationing in Ibiza, the playmaker has reportedly already selected a villa in Naples, underscoring his long-term commitment to settling in the region.

Contract Details Emerge

Sport Mediaset reports that the financial terms of the deal are close to being finalized. De Bruyne is expected to sign a two-year contract with an option for a third, earning €5.5 million per season net. Additionally, the agreement includes a hefty €10 million signing-on bonus, a figure that speaks volumes about Napoli’s intent to bring a world-class name to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

His agents are set to meet Napoli officials on Wednesday to finalise the deal, reinforcing that all signs point toward a formal agreement within days.

End of an Era at Manchester City

Having joined City in 2015, De Bruyne became the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side, playing a pivotal role in numerous Premier League and European triumphs. Yet, despite his enduring brilliance and status as arguably the greatest player in the club’s history, City chose not to extend his contract. His final appearance for the club came this past Sunday, closing a remarkable chapter that yielded multiple titles, assists, and unforgettable moments.

A Calculated Career Move

Turning 34 in June, De Bruyne seems acutely aware of his career trajectory. A move to Serie A—traditionally slower in tempo compared to the Premier League—could offer the perfect environment to prolong his elite-level influence.

For Napoli, fresh off a Serie A triumph, signing a global star like De Bruyne serves as both a statement of intent and a strategic push to build on recent successes.

Final Steps Before Announcement

All that remains now are the formalities. Medical tests, contract signing, and possibly an unveiling will follow swiftly after June 2, provided no late hurdles emerge. Fans in Naples are already bracing for what could be one of the most impactful signings in the club’s modern history.
