The Bollywood landscape continues to surprise audiences with unexpected box office phenomena. While director Anurag Basu celebrates the success of his recent release “Metro… In Dino,” his much-anticipated musical starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela faces scheduling challenges. Anurag Basu’s Metro…In Dino got a major dent by Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara in its third weekend, creating a ripple effect that has impacted the production timeline of his next project.

The Current State of Kartik-Sreeleela Musical

Anurag Basu’s musical love story, starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela, is reportedly facing delays and may not meet its scheduled Diwali 2025 release. Industry insiders suggest that the film’s production schedule has been significantly affected due to multiple factors, including the director’s commitment to promoting his current successful venture.

The untitled musical, which has been in production for several months, represents a significant collaboration between T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions. However, recent developments have cast doubt on its originally planned festive release.

Film Production Status: By the Numbers

Production Details	Current Status
Lead Actors	Kartik Aaryan, Sreeleela
Director	Anurag Basu
Producer	Bhushan Kumar (T-Series)
Genre	Musical Romance
Shooting Progress	Approximately 50% complete
Original Release	Diwali 2025
Current Timeline	Likely pushed to 2026
Next Schedule	August 2025 (tentative)

Recent reports suggest that the film’s release might be pushed to 2026 due to scheduling conflicts. The Hollywood Reporter India has reported that only 40% of the film has been shot so far, making a timely release unlikely, while other sources indicate the film is about 50% complete.

Anurag Basu’s Busy Schedule: Metro In Dino Success

The delay in Kartik Aaryan’s film comes at a time when Anurag Basu is basking in the success of “Metro… In Dino.” Producer Bhushan Kumar and writer-producer-director Anurag Basu hosted a party at AOX in Bombay today (17th July) to celebrate the success of their Metro… In Dino, highlighting how the current project’s success has become a priority for the filmmaker.

Metro… In Dino was released theatrically on 4 July 2025. Metro… In Dino follows four contemporary couples across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, and its unexpected performance has required additional promotional commitments from the director.

The Saiyaara Phenomenon Impact

The mention of Saiyaara’s “massive success” in relation to the delay suggests that the current market dynamics have influenced production decisions. Metro In Dino will fall below the 1 crore mark during the weekdays. It is currently the 10th highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2025. But that spot is in danger, considering the unreal run of Saiyaara, indicating how competitive the current box office environment has become.

This competitive landscape has forced filmmakers to reassess their release strategies, with quality over rushed timelines becoming the priority.

Kartik Aaryan’s Packed Schedule

The delay also stems from Kartik Aaryan’s increasingly busy schedule. Both the Kartik Aaryan films – Anurag Basu’s next and Tu Meri Main Tera Mera Tera Tu Meri – will hit the big screen in 2026, suggesting that the actor has multiple projects in his pipeline that require careful scheduling coordination.

The actor’s rising star power means that every project demands adequate time and attention, making rushed productions counterproductive for all parties involved.

What This Means for Bollywood Musicals

This delay reflects a broader trend in Bollywood where quality filmmaking is being prioritized over quick turnarounds. Musical films, in particular, require extensive pre-production, elaborate choreography, and meticulous sound design that cannot be rushed.

Future Prospects and Industry Response

Despite the delay, industry insiders remain optimistic about the project. Contrary to the industry rumours, the film is on track for a Diwali 2025 release, though recent developments suggest this timeline may be overly optimistic.

The collaboration between Kartik Aaryan and Anurag Basu represents a significant creative partnership that audiences are eagerly waiting to see. The director’s track record with musical narratives and the actor’s growing versatility promise an engaging cinematic experience.

Looking Ahead: 2026 Release Strategy

With the film now likely targeting a 2026 release, the production team has the luxury of time to perfect their vision. This extended timeline could ultimately benefit the final product, allowing for more elaborate musical sequences and refined storytelling.
