Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Investigative Drama “Daayra” Struggles to Cross Rs 5 Crore Even After Four Days

Good word-of-mouth doesn’t always translate into footfalls — and “Daayra” is proof. Meghna Gulzar’s latest investigative drama, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, has hit a steep 60% collapse on its first Monday, cementing its status as a box office disappointment despite decent critical reception.

The film collected just Rs 40 lakh on Monday, bringing its four-day total to a modest Rs 4.50 crore — numbers that suggest the genre simply couldn’t pull audiences into theaters.

Why “Daayra” Failed to Draw Crowds?

Despite positive word-of-mouth, the film’s investigative-thriller genre has limited theatrical appeal in today’s market, with many viewers now saving such titles for streaming platforms instead. Weak promotional buzz didn’t help either, leaving the film with little momentum beyond its modest opening.

What’s “Daayra” About?

The drama explores a tense ethical clash within law enforcement after a disputed encounter shooting. As officer Raman Kumar’s team faces scrutiny, another officer, Ajooni Kohli, investigates whether the incident was staged — unraveling a deep institutional conflict. The film also stars Kanwaljit Singh, Achint Kaur, and Anuja Sathe in supporting roles, and explores themes central to police accountability in India.
