Sunrisers Hyderabad named Kane Williamson as their new skipper replacing David Warner for the remainder of the IPL this season.

Today, the decision came before SRH’s match against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, May 2 at Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi. The SRH has already confirmed the change through their statement. The statement read, “Sunrisers Hyderabad would like to announce that Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy for tomorrow’s match and the remainder of IPL 2021. The team management has also decided that they will be changing their overseas combination for tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals.”

“The decision has not come lightly as the management respects the enormous impact David Warner has had for the franchise over a number of years. As we face the remainder of the season we are sure David will continue to help us strive for success both on and off the field.”- it added.

SRH is currently bottom of the table with just 2 points from the first 6 games. They lost against CSK recently. After the match, Warner took all the blame on himself for the loss. He said, “I take full responsibility. The way that I batted was obviously very slow.”

“I was hitting a lot of fielders and [was] very, very frustrated… Look I take full responsibility from a batting point of view. I felt [that with] Manish coming back into the team, the way that he batted was exceptional. And obviously Kane [Williamson] and Kedar [Jadhav] towards the back end there, they put some boundaries away and got us to a respectable total. I felt that we were probably just below par from where we were. But yeah look, at the end of the day, I’ll take full responsibility.”- he addded.

After all these SRH management decided to replace Warner with the NZ skipper. Williamson has previously led Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 and 2019 seasons and he was the top scorer in the league with 735 runs in the team’s run to the final of the 2018 season.
