Juventus 1-0 Chelsea: Chiesa’s second half goal enough to seal win for Juve

Juventus stunned Chelsea with a 1-0 victory at home, despite the absence of first team strikers Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala due to injury. The win sends the Bianconeri to the top of the table in the group, while Chelsea are in second on goal difference. The former Serie A champions are yet to concede in the Champions League this season, with two clean sheets in a row.

The first half saw Chelsea struggle to break through the Juventus defense. The home team defended narrow, and Chelsea were mostly passing the ball around the defending formation, trying to find a way in from wide spaces. However, Juventus were disciplined and did not allow Chelsea to break through their guard.

Allegri’s team were extremely fast on the counter, and showed their confidence when they received possession. With Chelsea mostly on the front foot, Chiesa and Bernardeschi had the liberty to make darting counter attacking runs to threaten the Blues. They looked more likely to score in the initial stages, with several chances squandered.

11 seconds into the second half, Chiesa got his goal with Bernardeschi playing him in. They caught the Chelsea defenders off guard, and Chiesa capitalised to earn the lead for his team.

The defending champions of Europe had several chances to try and equalise, and Juventus had the same, with an opportunity to double their lead. However, neither team was clinical enough to get their efforts into the back of the net, and Chelsea had to drop all three points to a disciplined and confident Juventus.
