Jose Mourinho has been sacked as the manager of Roma, after the 3-1 defeat to AC Milan, which proved to be the final straw for the Special One. During his time in charge, he helped the Giallorossi win the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League, before making it to the finals of the Europa League in the following season.Â
After a disappointing performance this season, the board has decided to part ways with him. Moreover, sporting director Tiago Pinto will also be leaving the club on February 1, signalling a change in structure for the club.
Jose Mourinho sacked by Roma after crushing defeat at San Siro
Mourinho registered an average of 1.70 points per game in 138 matches, his lowest for any club since Leiria, whom he managed before Porto.Â
After initially being hailed as the best thing to have ever happened to them, Jose Mourinho fell out of favour not only with the board but also the fans. Over the last six months, questions have emerged over his methods and the defeat to Milan was the final straw that forced the decision.
Former Roma player Daniele De Rossi is set to return to the club and manage the first team, succeeding Mourinho. His appointment has not been completed yet, but he remains the sole candidate in consideration at this time.
