All the winners from the Best FIFA Awards 2024: Messi, Bonmati claim honours

The Best FIFA Awards 2024 were given out at a ceremony in London, recognising some of the most standout performers in the sport over the past year. Lionel Messi made headlines, winning FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player Award for the 8th time in his illustrious career, alongside the Ballon d’or this past season. 

Aitana Bonmati was recognised as The Best Women’s Player, also completing the double alongside the Women’s Ballon d’or. Here are all the winners from the ceremony held last night.

The Best Men’s Player: Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi finished level on total votes with Erling Haaland, in spite of the Norwegian’s brilliant treble winning season. The Argentine won the vote on the basis of the total votes by national team captains, winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina, and then moving to Inter Miami and winning the Leagues Cup with them.

The Best Women’s Player: Aitana Bonmati

After helping Spain win the Women’s World Cup, Bonmati has been recognised for her efforts by FIFA too, now winning the Best Women’s Player Award – voted on by captains, coaches and media personnel from across the world. 

The Best Men’s Coach: Pep Guardiola

Guardiola finally helped City win the Champions League this past season, and did so in the best way possible – while also completing the treble. The Catalonian was also asked a trick question, being asked to compare his Barcelona and Man City treble winning squad – to which he had a simple response. 

The Best Women’s Coach: Sarina Wiegman

Wiegman has won the best coach award for the second straight time, and fourth overall. She guided the England women’s team to the finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but ultimately fell short of the mark against Spain.

Best Women’s Goalkeeper: Mary Earps

Earps beat competition from Spain’s Cata Coll and Australia’s Mackenzie Arnold to win the trophy this year. She was quite impressive both for the Manchester United Women’s team and the England Women’s team as they reached the finals of the World Cup. 

Best Men’s Goalkeeper: Ederson

The Brazilian was named the best goalkeeper this season, after helping Manchester City win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup trophies.

Puskas Award: Guilherme Madruga 

Madruga took home the Puskas Award after scoring an outrageous bicycle kick from the edge of the penaltty area, playing for Botafogo against Novorizontino during a Brazilian Serie B game. 

Special Award: Marta

Brazil women’s team legend Marta was honoured with a special award at the ceremony, celebrating her career. A special award recognising the best women’s goal of the season similar to the Puskas Award for the men’s category was also declared after the special award was given to her.
