Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly desperate to return to the Premier League this winter. The Al Ettifaq midfielder made the move for £12 million this summer, and has been earning a massive wage worth £700,000 per week.

But his performances have been sub-par, like the rest of the team. And after finding it difficult to cope with the humidity and conditions in Asia, he is looking to return to England and will seriously consider any offer that comes his way.

The midfielder will have to pay a 20% flat income tax on his earnings if he leaves after only six months. If so, his tax bill will come up to roughly £7 million. The player had agreed a tax free contract to maximise his earnings, but that element was only active had he honoured the first two years of his contract.

Al Ettifaq manager Steven Gerrard has also come under pressure for failing to deliver results. And the departure of assistant coach Ian Foster to Plymouth Argyle has not helped things either, since the pair were crucial in bringing Jordan Henderson over.

The 33-year-old has also been criticised for making the move to Saudi Arabia after his vocal support for the LGBTQ+ community, contrasting with the laws in place against the community in Saudi Arabia.

And after a failed experiment away from England, it remains to be seen whether any English club will try to sign the midfielder on a reduced wage deal.
